Alberta Theatre Projects welcomes applications from Alberta-based playwrights and theatre creators of all backgrounds and experience for the Enbridge Playwrights Awards. Awards of $3,000 each will be presented to one emerging and one established playwright, fostering the research, creation and development of a new play and nurturing Canadian playwriting talent.

To celebrate and support playwrights living and working in Alberta, this year our Awards will only be open to playwrights with a home address in this province.

EMERGING PLAYWRIGHTS:

The Enbridge Playwrights Award for an Emerging Canadian Playwright may be used to support the following expenses related to the development of a play:

  • Engage dramaturgical expertise (travel costs, artist fees, etc.)
  • Undertake a workshop (facility rental, artist fees, etc.)
  • Convene a public reading (facility rental, artist fees, administrative costs, etc.)

ESTABLISHED PLAYWRIGHTS:

The Enbridge Playwrights Award for an Established Canadian Playwright may be used for the following expenses:

  • Financial support to complete a draft of your play (subsistence, child care, etc.)
  • Engage dramaturgical expertise (travel costs, artist fees, etc.)
  • Undertake a workshop (facility rental, artist fees, etc.)
  • Convene a public reading (facility rental, artist fees, administrative costs, etc.)

Applicants to the Enbridge Playwrights Award for an Established Canadian Playwright must have had at least one play produced by a member of the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres (PACT). Please note the name of this theatre on your application.

ALL APPLICATIONS SHOULD INCLUDE:

  • Your address in Alberta
  • a short synopsis of your play and a writing sample of 2-3 page (please do not include a full draft)
  • a brief description of your play development process, your goals and schedule
  • a simple budget that outlines how the $3,000 Award funds will be used
  • your current curriculum vitae
  • if you are applying as an Emerging or Established Playwright

Please note that full productions of new plays are not considered eligible projects for this Award. All activities (such as workshops, readings, etc.) must be completed within 2 years of receiving this Award. This Award is open to all Alberta-based playwrights, who may be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, refugees, or landed immigrants living in Alberta.
