Meet this years Workshop facilitators:

braem_meg headshotPLAYWRITING WITH MEG BRAEM

Meg’s plays have won the Alberta Literary Award for Drama, the Alberta Playwriting Competition, and Playwright Theatre Centre’s “The News Competition.” Her play, Blood: A Scientific Romance was published by Playwrights Canada Press and nominated for a Governors General’s Literary Award. She was part of the 2012 Stratford Shakespeare Festival’s Playwright Retreat, and the 2013 Banff Playwrights Colony. Meg’s work has been presented at the Citadel Theatre, Theatre Calgary, Lunchbox Theatre, The Belfry Theatre, Sage Theatre, Sparrow and Finch Theatre, Theatre Transit, Atomic Vaudeville, and Intrepid Theatre. Forthcoming publications: The Josephine Knot (Playwrights Canada Press, 2018) and co-author with Norah Bowman, Feminist Resistance: A Graphic Approach (University of Toronto Press). Meg is playwright-in-residence at Workshop West Playwrights’ Theatre.

 

Jamie DunsdonDIRECTING WITH JAMIE DUNSDON

Jamie Dunsdon is the Artistic Director of Verb Theatre, the Artistic Producer at Calgary Young People’s Theatre, and an active director, playwright, performer, and arts educator.  She is a regular instructor for University of Lethbridge Calgary Campus, and in 2013/14 was honoured to be the Artistic Associate at The Grand Theatre in London.

Jamie’s interests and work spans the theatrical spectrum, ranging from contemporary Canadian drama to musical theatre to Shakespeare.  She places particular value in character, and seeks out stories that place emphasis on the stylistic intersections between content and form.  She embraces statements that begin with “What if theatre could __________?” and strives to ensure that her theatre is both accessible and intelligent.

Directing Credits (Selected): Lungs, The Dandelion Project, NOISE, Marg Szkaluba: Pissy’s Wife, Jim Forgetting, John and Beatrice, The Shape of a Girl (Verb Theatre); The Importance of Being Earnest, Playwrights Cabaret (The Grand Theatre); The Lost Prince, Village of Idiots, Richard III,  A Little Princess (Calgary Young People’s Theatre), and; Bridge to Terabithia (Storybook Theatre).

 

Julia WasilewskiDESIGN WITH JULIA WASILEWSKI

Julia Wasilewski is a Calgary based Set, Light and Costume designer. You can find her during the year at her role as the Properties Master at the University of Calgary, as well as designing at a variety of theatres across the province including Lunchbox Theatre, Sage Theatre, Calgary Opera, One Yellow Rabbit, Ghost River Theatre, Urban Curvz, Ground Zero Theatre, Forte Musical Theatre, New West Theatre, and Keyano College. She has taught a variety of theatre workshops and programs across the city with students of all ages including at the University of Calgary, Playhouse North and Theatre Alberta’s Artstrek. Julia is a founding member and resident designer for Theatre Transit.
